Woman Feeds Blind Raccoon–She’s Caught Off Guard When He Brings Something For Her Next Day

She found it very amusing…

Many people do not think of raccoons in a sentimental way. However, this Illinois raccoon was able to survive more than twice his expected lifespan because of the kindness of a woman named Eryn, who left food outside of her house for this raccoon every day for 5 years.

In a YouTube video caption, Eryn wrote, “There is something wrong with his tapetum lucidum…His eyes shine bright green during the day. He is at least partially blind. He walks into things. He is afraid of the wind, high grass, birds, and snow.”

Even though the raccoon had vision problems, he was likely able to survive just because of Eryn’s kindness.

She added on to her caption that this raccoon was typically out and about in the daytime and would come to their house for food early every morning between the hours of 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. He would often come back for seconds and sometimes thirds. Because his bottom lip was missing, they would feed him soft pasta noodles that were soaked in cream of chicken soup.

They would also sometimes cut up pieces of meat for him, although he would refuse to eat canned cat and dog food.

At first, Eryn suspected that this guy might have rabies or distemper, but the fact that he kept coming to her for 5 years showed her that this was likely not true, as he likely would have died if he had had either of those illnesses.

Eryn did find it very amusing one day when she found that he had a couple of helpers with him. On this day, he came not alone but with two little black kittens that she thought of as his “bodyguards.”

She figured that the kittens had likely worked out some sort of a deal with the raccoon. They would help guide him around, and he would show them where all of his food was coming from. It was a win-win for both sides.

However, this entertaining situation could not continue forever. Eventually, the raccoon ended up passing away. However, we can all take solace in the fact that he did live a pretty good life.

He lived a long life for a raccoon, considering that he had been fed by Eryn for five years, while most raccoons live only about two years. It is possible that the reason he lived so long was that of all of the food Eryn was giving him.

Eryn was not the only one who grieved the loss of this cool raccoon. The kittens missed their friend too, and they needed someone now that he was gone. Eryn thought of a great solution and ended up adopting them both.

Now, they are one happy family together, and none of them will ever forget the wonderful little blind raccoon who brought them all together in the first place. He may not be with them, but he is likely with them in spirit and will live on forever in their hearts.
