There are many people in the world who think that rules are the most important thing and that they must always be followed no matter what. However, there are times when it is only humane and right to make an exception to the rules. One of these instances happened last week when David King was losing his battle with cancer. He wasn’t able to have his dog in his hospital room, but of course, it would not have been right to let him leave this world without saying goodbye to his beloved furry friend.
His granddaughter, Ellie Miguel, tweeted pictures of the final goodbye that he shared with his beloved Yorkie. The pictures came with the following caption: “My grandpa is losing his battle with cancer so the nurses helped my grandma sneak their dog into the hospital to say goodbye.”
Ellie also told Yahoo Lifestyle about her grandfather’s feelings for his dog, telling them how much he loved Lil Fee, and how she had made the habit of following him all over the place. He would bring her anywhere he went when it was possible. David King had been dealing with cancer for the past couple of years, but last week it quickly took over his entire system. He was in the hospital for about a week, and his wife had brought in pictures of their dog to hang up in his room. The nurses had always heard his wife talking about this dogs, so they encouraged her to bring the dog in and helped her sneak the dog to her husband on his deathbed.
His granddaughter states, “They had my aunt carry the dog in a really big purse.” Even though having a dog in the hospital room was technically against hospital regulations, the nurses knew that it was the right thing to do to make an exception in this particular circumstance. After all, he was dying, and it would just be tragic for him to die in that hospital bed without ever seeing his beloved pooch one last time. Dogs really do become a part of the family in many cases, and they must have understood that it would not have been right to let him pass away without giving him the chance to say goodbye to a beloved member of his family.
According to his granddaughter, he did get this farewell, and it was definitely worth all the effort that was put in. It was an emotional goodbye, but it was unforgettable for all who were involved. It is definitely good that this dying man was able to see his dog and say goodbye and express his love one last time before his life was over.
Even though the nurses technically did break the rules, there is no doubt in the minds of most people who know about the story that they definitely did the right thing. His granddaughter’s tweet has gone viral in the days after it was posted, and many people agree with these sentiments.
If you’re thankful he got to say one last goodbye to his beloved dog, please SHARE!
